The Loop x Tour de Pêche

Two generous, adventurous and very energetic members of the local community recently approached The Loop with a plan to raise money and set up a long-lasting, meaningful community project.

Sian and Joe work at The Duke of Wellington, a country pub in East Horsley. They have both been touched by dementia – they have seen how family, friends and patrons have been affected by dementia. During the lockdown, whilst on furlough, Sian worked for Home Counties Carers as a carer on the frontline and was inspired to continue doing something positive and purposeful for the elderly once she had returned to work at the pub.

Sian and Joe were both adamant that they wanted to do something locally rather than donate money to one of the larger, national charities. They wanted to raise money for a project that they could be hands on with. A project that they could watch grow and remain involved with.

So Sian and Joe are hoping to raise a whopping £10,000 to set up and fund a fun and stimulating Intergenerational Music Group in East Horsley that will be led by The Loop.

The power music has for people living with dementia cannot be underestimated. It has the power to bring people together in the here and now, providing a way to stay connected with loved ones through past shared experiences. Research also shows that music can help reduce some of the distressing symptoms of dementia, such as agitation, apathy and anxiety.

The music group will be for all ages – the young, the old and those in between with the additional benefits of pulling and knitting the community together and reducing loneliness.

Both keen cyclists Sian and Joe will be raising funds for The Loop to set up and run the music group by cycling from the pub to Paris and back in just one week, between 15 and 21 May 2022 – The Tour de Pêche!

The Duke of Wellington is part of the Peach Pubs Group. Peach are really backing Joe and Sian with the ride and the project – hence the peachy name, with a French flavour, given to the fundraising ride.

Sian and Joe have created this JustGiving page for the Tour de Pêche, their fundraising ride.
