Music Memories | One Year On!

Music Memories, The Loop’s weekly music therapy group for people living with dementia in our community, is a year old! Come and join us at The Duke of Wellington pub to celebrate it’s first anniversary on Wednesday 8th November!

Back in late 2021 two generous, adventurous and very energetic members of the local community approached The Loop with a plan to raise money and set up a long-lasting, meaningful community project for people with dementia.

Sian and Joe work for the Peach Pubs Group, who manage The Duke of Wellington, a village pub in East Horsley. They have both been touched by dementia – they have seen how family, friends and patrons have been affected by dementia.

Sian and Joe were both adamant that they wanted to do something locally rather than donate money to one of the larger, national charities. They wanted to raise money for a project that they could be hands on with. A project that they could watch grow and remain involved with.

In May 2022 Sian and Joe cycled to Paris and back! They raised a whopping £16K on their fundraising ride with the peachy name and a French flavour, the Tour de Pêche.

On Tuesday 1st November 2022 the first session of Music Memories was held at St Martin’s Church in the village. Music Memories is The Loop’s music therapy group for people living with dementia in the local community which is funded by the monies raised by Sian and Joe, that have been kindly and generously donated by the customers at the Welly.

Music Memories is run by The Loop and led by Val, a professionally qualified music therapist, and takes place on Tuesday mornings at the church. The power music has for people living with dementia cannot be underestimated. It has the power to bring people together in the here and now, providing a way to reconnect with memories again, musical moments to share with loved ones, friends and carers.

Come along and join us at the Welly on Wednesday 8th November, as we mark the first year of Music Memories. Enjoy a complementary glass of bubbly as we tell you all about Music Memories and the power of music.
