Join the Surrey Coalition of Disabled People team of Tech Angel volunteers across Surrey!
Many older people and people with disabilities experience difficulties getting online – Tech Angels provide one-to-one support to help them with this.
Tech to Community Connect is a digital inclusion service from the Surrey Coalition of Disabled People. The project provides technology and support in using technology to reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation in people with care and support needs across Surrey.
The service is aimed at people who are at the highest risk of digital exclusion; people who are disabled, people with a long-term health condition, people with mental ill-health, carers, older people and people from black and minoritised ethnic groups.
Technology can help people to gain or regain their independence by allowing them to shop or bank online. It can prevent isolation, as the internet allows connection with family, friends or vital services via messages or video calls. It also provides a source of entertainment and relaxation. When a person doesn’t have access to the internet they are deprived of all this. When you volunteer with as a Tech Angel you will use your people skills and experience of technology to help others in all sorts of ways, from helping someone learn to use a touchscreen for the first time, through building up their confidence and moving on to using email, making online video calls and accessing vital services online.
